Soil conditioners, CO₂ stores, emission reducers – what is the truth behind them?
It’s not rocket science and it’s certainly not a new discovery:
Terra Preta (Portuguese for ‘black earth’). This is an extraordinary soil with a particularly high humus content, which differs significantly from typical tropical soils. Originating in the Amazon region, it is formed from organic residues, including charred plant matter, that has been composting for centuries.
Could this be a game changer for agriculture?
There are many indications that it could be, but long-term trials under local conditions are still lacking. We want to change that: together with our partners in Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, we are researching the effects on yield, water retention and nutrient binding in the soil.
We will keep you updated!
